SOLD Unusual Early 19thC Papier-mâché Head Doll on Wooden body

This product is currently unavailable
Quantity:
This is a most unusual and rare doll dating from the early 19thC, she is 9” tall. She has a beautifully moulded and painted papier-mâché head, her body is wooden with jointed wooden legs arms are jointed at the shoulder only, she appears to have no hands just stumps. She does show signs of wear but there is no major damage and no repaint.
She wears her original regency dress of green striped cotton with a turban style head dress and she carries a lovely early silk bag. There is some painting on her body however as her clothing is stitched on we have made no attempt to investigate further as we don’t want to damage her fabulous outfit.
