This is such an unusual and rare item.
Probably made as a deed chest originally.
Made as an exact miniature copy of a painted marriage chest, these were very popular in the 18thC.
The chest is probably pine and the style of the painting indicates more than likely Dutch.
The chest is dated 1795 on the lid, the painting to the lid has faded somewhat so the date is hard to see but it is there.
The painting to the rest of the chest is still rich and bright and very beautiful.
The chest retains its original early hinges, handles and lock.
The side panel lifts to reveal a secret drawer, in the manner of many marriage chests of this period.
What a fabulous item to house your early dolls accessories in or just to dispay with your early dolls.
this is a real treasure, I have never seen another like it.
