This is a wonderful early dress. Dating from the late 18th/early 19thC, this dress was I beleive originally worn by a very early wax doll, sadly she perished but her dress survived.
The doll was around 17 inches tall, this would be gorgeous on an early wooden doll of similar size.
The dress is constructed from a stiff wax cotton, amost feels like paper but it is cotton and it makes the dress able to stand up on its own with no stuffing.
over the waxed cotton is the most beautifuly patterened netting , at the sleeves and neck a dark lace with gold thread woven through and the fabulous and unusual lace embroidered with a dark soutache edges the central panel.
The overall effect is a most stunning yet subtle and delicate creation.
This dress doesnt really need a doll, it is a gorgeoes item to display on its own.
