A most fascinating and Rare pair of early 19thC portrait miniatures depicting Charles and Henry Brandon.
These fabulous miniature watercolours are early 19thC copies of the originals which were painted by Hans Holbein in 1541.
Henry Brandon was the 2nd Duke of Suffolk.
His father had previously been married to Mary Tudor ( sister of King Henry viii).
Henry Brandon succeeded his father as 2nd Duke of Suffolk in 1545.
At this time both he and his brother Charles were minors.
Sadly the 2 boys died in 1535 within 1 hour of each other after contracting what was then described as the sweating sickness.
The 2 portraits by Holbein are now held in the Royal-collection trust.
These copies are very accomplished copies of the originals .
They each measure 7 cm square, set in beautiful gilt metal frames.
A superb addition to an early dolls house.
